WEDDING MUSIC
Picking the right song for the key moments of your wedding ceremony & reception will make your entire celebration more meaningful. The following are a few common questions that are frequently asked when it comes to choosing the perfect music for your key wedding moments in Sydney.
The kind of music you choose for your big day is very important. It will serve as a reflection of who you are as a couple.
When looking at the types of music to choose for your wedding reception, it is a good idea that you think about the evening as a three segment piece:
Doing so will allow you to consider the different music genres that will fit perfectly for each part of the evening.
You’ll start the evening off with softer background music over cocktail hour and dinner service, allowing guests to chat and socialise – before kicking off the dance floor later on in the evening with upbeat party music to keep the dance floor pumping all night long.
In Hollywood movies you’ll always hear two different songs being played for the entrance processional of the bridesmaids and the bride (Pachelbel’s Canon and Wagner’s “Here Comes the Bride – Wedding March” are the most popular wedding ceremony entrance songs).
Whilst we are more than happy to play separate songs, in our experience however, we recommend having one song only which will cover both the brides and bridesmaids – very controversial – but read on for why we think this!!
We find quite often that not only is the aisle so short so you’ll often have both the bridesmaids and bride down the aisle in under 30 seconds…but think about it, how many bridesmaids are you having? 2 – 3? If you choose 2 songs, the guests will hear more of the bridesmaids song (20 seconds or so), than they will for you (approx. 10 seconds)… because it takes longer for the bridesmaids to enter than it does for 1 bride.
Sure if you’re having 10 bridesmaids, by all means choose two songs, but you’ll still hear much less of the brides entrance song than the bridesmaids.
Your average pop song goes for around 3 minutes… would you prefer that your guests get to hear as much as possible of your favourite song in the world, or a quick 10 seconds of it?
Sure, there is an element of exaggeration in the timings mentioned in this blog paragraph, but do you get the point? It’s certainly worth thinking about… and that’s before we get into the logistics of the musicians trying to see past Auntie Beryl who is staunchly standing not only in front of your professional photographer and ruining the official photos, but blocking the line of site of the musicians who are trying to see when to stop playing the bridesmaids song and change to the brides song.
Typically no, the groom does not walk down the aisle with music - however the key is to go with what feels right to you.
Normally the groom and groomsmen arrive early to the ceremony and stand at the front whilst awaiting the bridesmaids and bride.
If you do want the groom to make an official entrance down the aisle with music, the following can be described as the standard groom’s processional program, especially when one has the right wedding music in Sydney:
The suggestions mentioned above are just optional, there is no one “right way” to do this. You can always use your imagination and find your “right way” to walk down the aisle for your wedding.

I loved the music; the violinist really set the atmosphere and I was almost lost for breath as I was about to walk down the aisle. We had talked about getting emotional thinking about that particular song and that was definitely the case for me on the day.
