A Guide to Your Wedding Entrance

There’s no shortage of inspirational wedding party entrance videos making the rounds these days. If what gets shared on social media is any indication, it can almost seem like a prerequisite for being a best man or maid of honor is having the ability to perform acrobatics or amazing dance moves!

Social media isn’t the only place we see this. As a wedding band, we’ve seen everything during entrances: grooms entering on white stallions, married couples appearing on motorcycles and even intense pyrotechnic displays.

Your wedding party entrance doesn’t have to be complex or YouTube-worthy, though. Here are some tips to ensure that it goes off without a hitch.

Keep it simple with one or two key songs

You’ve already got enough decisions on your plate, and there are going to be plenty of memorable moments throughout your day. Unless the entrance is one of the most important moments of the day to you, it’s best to keep your wedding entrance music simple.

For example, you could certainly choose 10 separate songs for each member of your bridal party. However, you run the risk of it coming across as choppy and ruining the flow of your entrance, not to mentioning increasing the margin for error. For example, if the bridal party gets out of order—which, let’s face it, is more likely to happen after cocktail hour—the wrong songs may get played for the wrong people.

The gold standard for ensuring your entrance goes smoothly is to choose one song for the entire bridal party, including the bride and groom. Alternately, you could also choose two songs—one of the bridal party, and another for you and your partner. (And if you’re having trouble selecting a song, we’d be happy to help!)

Make sure you set the mood

Just to be clear, “keeping it simple” doesn’t have to mean keeping it boring!

You’ve already walked down the church aisle during your ceremony—that was the time for tears and emotional slower songs. Now is the time to let your hair down and party.

The bridal entrance music sets the tone for the entire reception, so if you’re looking to have a solid dance floor later in the night, choose songs that are upbeat, fun and energetic.

Take it up a notch with a mini performance

Some bridal parties organise a little dance for each couple to do on the way through. However, if you or your bridal party don’t have the dance skills or confidence to perform a choreographed or even freestyle routine, there are other ways you can create visual interest during your entrance.

While pyrotechnics are one route, a lower-cost alternative is lowering the lights and investing in some long sparklers (which are longer than the standard size) for the bridal party to carry through the room.

Whatever you do, remember that your entrance will just be one of many memorable moments throughout the night—and that your guests are there to celebrate your love for one another.

I loved the music; the violinist really set the atmosphere and I was almost lost for breath as I was about to walk down the aisle. We had talked about getting emotional thinking about that particular song and that was definitely the case for me on the day.
