What Does the Viola Add?

A quartet is the sound most people picture when they imagine wedding strings, and it fills a church or a downtown ballroom without a single speaker.

The biggest leap in sound is from a duo to a trio. With two violins, the melody and harmonies soar together over the beautiful bass notes of the cello. The quartet adds a viola, filling the middle with an even deeper, richer warmth.

It means a quartet can play Bach exactly as he wrote it, then turn Can't Help Falling in Love into something that sounds like a film score. That's why it's the classic choice for church ceremonies, grand rooms and couples who love their classical music.

Planning something really big? Ask about a Double Quartet: eight musicians, like a small orchestra framing your aisle.
It's a spectacle your guests will talk about for years.

When Does the Quartet Play?

From the moment your guests arrive. Prelude music sets the mood, then the quartet plays your entrance, the signing and your joyful exit.

Many couples keep us on for cocktails too. It turns pre-dinner drinks into an occasion while you slip away for photos.

Can a String Quartet Play Our Song?

Almost certainly. We play from a library of almost 1,000 arrangements of today's biggest songs, from Billie Eilish and JVKE to Taylor Swift, all written exclusively by us. You won't hear them played this way anywhere else.

If your song isn't there, ask your Band Manager about a new arrangement, and ask early so there's time to write it.

Who we are

Who Plays in Your String Quartet?

We're degree-qualified string players from the Glenn Gould School of The Royal Conservatory, Humber College and Juilliard. Some of us have performed with Stevie Wonder and Ed Sheeran, and with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. We've been playing live since 2009.

Quartet playing is a team skill: four people breathing and starting as one. We play weddings together every weekend, and it shows in the small things, like the music swelling the moment your eyes meet down the aisle.

Why Couples Book the String Quartet

  • Nothing missing. Four parts, the top melody right down to the bass.
  • Made for big moments. It fills churches, ballrooms and big guest lists, all unplugged.
  • True to the classics. Classical pieces, played as they were written.
  • A film-score feel for modern songs. Pop songs come out lush and orchestral.

String Quartet: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a string quartet cost for a wedding?

From $1,390 in Toronto. Travel within 30 km of Toronto is included. Venues further out are priced by distance in the Package Builder. All prices include HST. Booking reception music too? A package discount comes off automatically. Watch the quartet in the Package Builder and you'll know exactly what you're booking.

How many guests is a string quartet right for?

About 80 to 100 guests or more. For bigger weddings, ask about a Double Quartet. Four of us carry to the back of a church unplugged, and every guest hears the music clearly. For a smaller wedding, the String Trio or the Violin + Cello Duo suits the room beautifully.

Is a string quartet worth it over a trio?

Yes, if you've got 80+ guests, a church or a big room, or you love classical music. The viola completes the harmony and the sound carries further. For a smaller wedding, a String Trio gives you most of the magic for less.

Can a string quartet play modern songs?

Yes. We play from a library of almost 1,000 arrangements of today's biggest songs, written exclusively by us, and couples often mix them with classical pieces. A new String Quartet arrangement may involve a small music preparation fee, so ask your Band Manager early if your song is new.

Does a string quartet need a microphone or power?

No. It plays unplugged. Our instruments can't play in rain, cold or harsh summer sun, so give us a covered, shaded spot and plan an indoor backup. We arrive up to 20 minutes before your booking starts, so we're set up and tuned before guests arrive.

When does the quartet play on the day?

As guests arrive, right through your ceremony and, if you like, on into cocktails. Prelude is a highlight with four of us, so give it time in your schedule. After your entrance, the signing and your joyful exit, keep us on and pre-dinner drinks turn into an occasion while you slip away for photos. Your Band Manager can help you plan the timing.

Can we add a singer to the quartet?

Yes, we can add a singer to our String Quartet. Ask your Band Manager. There's also String Trio + Vocals in the Package Builder, where you can watch the singers first. We bring a small sound system for the singer, and your Band Manager confirms your singer is available.
