Choosing the Perfect Music for Key Wedding Moments in Toronto

Weddings are a once in a lifetime event so picking the right song for each of the key moments of your wedding ceremony & reception is a great idea to make your entire celebration more meaningful.

The following questions are ones that we get asked quite frequently when it comes to choosing the perfect wedding music in Toronto.

How do I choose music for my wedding in Toronto?

The kind of music you choose for your big day will serve as a reflection of who you are as a couple – so it’s pretty important to get this part right.

To get the most out of your evening, we recommend splitting up your wedding reception music like this:

  • Cocktails
  • Service of Meals
  • Party on the dance floor

Choose fun and funky background music for cocktails to set a really cool vibe whilst guests relax after the formalities of the ceremony. Choose softer background music over meal service so that the music isn’t too loud whilst guests chat amongst themselves and enjoy eating their dinner. Then let rip with your favorite party tunes on the dance floor to get everyone up and dancing the night away.

Do The Bride And Bridesmaids Walk To The Same Music?

In Hollywood movies you’ll always hear a separate song for the entrance processional of the bridesmaids and the bride (Pachelbel’s Canon and Wagner’s “Here Comes the Bride – Wedding March” are the most popular wedding ceremony entrance songs).

We are more than happy to play separate songs but despite it potentially being a bit controversial, we recommend having just one song only which will cover both the brides and bridesmaids.

Often, we find that not only is the aisle so short so you’ll have both the bride & bridesmaids down the aisle in under 30 seconds…but think about it, how many bridesmaids are you having? 2 – 3? If you choose 2 songs, the guests will hear more of the bridesmaids song (20 seconds or so), than they will for you (approx. 10 seconds)… because it takes longer for 2-3 bridesmaids to enter than it does for 1 bride.

If you’ve got 10 bridesmaids then by all means choose two songs, but the “play time” of the brides’ entrance song will still end up being shorter than that of the bridesmaids.

Your average pop song goes for around 3 minutes… would you prefer that your guests hear as much as possible of your favourite song in the world, or just 10 seconds of it?

Sure, there is an element of exaggeration in the timings mentioned in this blog paragraph, but do you get the point? It’s certainly worth thinking about… and that’s before we get into the logistics of the musicians trying to see past Cousin Connor who is staunchly standing not only in front of your professional photographer and ruining the official photos, but blocking the line of site of the musicians who are trying to see when to stop playing the bridesmaids song and change to the brides song.

Does The Groom Walk Down The Aisle With Music?

Typically no, the groom does not walk down the aisle with music - however the key is to go with what feels right to you. At the end of the day, it is both you and your partner’s big day.

For more of a traditional ceremony, the groom and groomsmen arrive early to the ceremony and stand at the front whilst awaiting the bridesmaids and bride.

If you do want the groom to make an official entrance down the aisle with music, the following can be described as the standard groom’s processional program, especially when one has the right wedding music in Toronto:

  • The groom can be followed close behind by his groomsmen and walk down the aisle to a wonderful song that is just for them.
  • Once guests have finished arriving, and word has been received that the bride’s car has arrived, the groom can opt to enter the stage from left whilst background music is playing; It is a good way to signal everyone that the ceremony is about to kick-off.
  • The groom can choose to be escorted down the aisle by both of his parents or guardians.
  • Another beautiful option is for the groom to walk down the aisle while holding the bride’s hand.

The suggestions mentioned above are all optional as there is no one “right way” to do this. Use your imagination to find your “right way” to walk down the aisle for your wedding.

I loved the music; the violinist really set the atmosphere and I was almost lost for breath as I was about to walk down the aisle. We had talked about getting emotional thinking about that particular song and that was definitely the case for me on the day.
