Why Choose Two Violins and a Cello?

The biggest leap in sound is from a duo to a trio. With two violins, the melody and harmonies soar together over the beautiful bass notes of the cello.

It matters most with the songs couples actually choose: Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years", Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" or Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson's "Tale as Old as Time". Your guests know the song from the first few notes, and it sounds just like the version you fell in love with.

When Does the String Trio Play?

We're playing as your first guests arrive, and we stay with you until you're married, and beyond if you'd like.

Prelude music plays while guests find their seats. Then comes your processional and your recessional, each with a song you've chosen. Keep us on for the cocktail hour while you're away having photos: relaxed, familiar music, and nobody has to raise their voice to talk.

Who we are

Who's in Your String Trio?

We're degree-qualified Boston string players from Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory and Juilliard. Some of us have played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and we've been playing live since 2009.

Three bows moving as one. We play together every weekend, so the harmony is there from the first note, and your song ends right as you reach the person waiting for you.

Why Couples Love the String Trio

  • The sweet spot. A noticeably fuller sound than a duo, and the harmony your song was written with.
  • Your songs, not ours. Classical, Disney, Taylor Swift or Guns N' Roses, from a library of almost 1,000 arrangements written exclusively by us.
  • Room to grow. Add a singer and it becomes our String Trio + Vocals.
  • Reliable. We've never missed a wedding we were booked for.

String Trio: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a string trio cost for a wedding?

Three musicians who set the tone for everything that follows: the melody and the harmony soaring together over the cello, so your guests know the song from the first few notes in a New England church. A String Trio starts from $950 in Boston. Travel within about 18 miles of Boston is included, and venues further out are priced by distance in the Package Builder. The price you see is the price you pay.

What instruments are in a string trio?

Our String Trio is two violins and a cello. Two violins mean the tune and the harmony both sit up top and soar together over the cello's warm bass notes. That's why guests know a pop song from the first few notes: with "A Thousand Years" or "Thinking Out Loud", it sounds just like the version you fell in love with. We play together every weekend, three bows moving as one.

How many guests can a string trio play for?

Up to about 80 guests, unplugged. Under 50 guests, a Violin + Cello Duo is plenty for a smaller room. Over 80, look at the String Quartet, which adds a viola for an even richer sound, or ask about a Double Trio with six musicians.

What's the difference between a string trio and a string quartet?

The quartet adds a viola. That fills in the middle of the sound and suits bigger rooms, big guest lists and classical pieces written for quartet. The trio is lighter and a little more modern, and it's made for weddings of up to about 80 guests.

Can a string trio play pop and Disney songs?

Yes. Couples mix Bach with Taylor Swift, and some ask for Disney love songs only. We play from a library of almost 1,000 arrangements, written exclusively by us. Song choices are due 8 weeks before the wedding, and your Band Manager can help if your song isn't listed.

Can we add a singer to the trio?

Yes. Our String Trio + Vocals adds a singer for your ceremony songs, so every word of your aisle song is sung live over the strings. We bring a small sound system for the singer. Watch the singers in the Package Builder, and your Band Manager confirms your singer is available.

Does a string trio need power or a microphone?

No. We play unplugged, and we arrive up to 20 minutes before your booking starts to set up and tune. We need room for three chairs. Our instruments can't play in rain, cold or stormy weather, so give us a covered spot and plan an indoor backup.
